Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then located many other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior official stated the attack made him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
